About the event

Please join NPS Ranger Alan Gephardt on a walking tour of the Garfield-related sites situated east and west from the Garfield home, dubbed “Lawnfield” during the election of 1880. You’ll discover the “Hyannisport” of Mentor. At the turn of the last century, Garfield family properties covered approximately 400 acres and included walking paths and gardens. Also learn about the neighbors and businesses along Mentor Avenue as the village grew.
The nicely-paced walk is on level sidewalks, with stops, covering approximately 1 mile total. Please dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes. Bottled water and light snacks will be provided.
Meet at the Visitor Center. Spaces are limited.
